7/23/2009 - Williwaw USFS Campground near Whittier, AK

We left Wasilla and our next stop was the Williwaw USFS Campground near Whittier, Alaska. After getting set up, we drove to the Whittier. That route includes going through the 2-1/2 mile Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel. There was a $12 fee to drive the truck through the tunnel.
Here is the entrance to the tunnel.
Inside the tunnel.

We're getting to the end of the tunnel.

While in Whittier, we watched the Alaska Ferry dock and unload passengers and vehicles.

Here's a larger RV as it comes up the ramp.

Here is the other end of the tunnel as we head back toward camp.

It was still early enough in the day to tour the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. This center cares for injured and orphaned wildlife. This bear looks quite comfy reclined on a log.

A young bull moose.

A bull elk.

Four orphaned moose calves.

Here are a couple of wood bison. They are different in appearance from the bison we've seen in other parts of the country. They have a much wider head.
