On our trip to Alaska this year, we’re trying to see new and different things than what we saw on our first trip in 2009. Since we’ll be headed to a more remote area of the Yukon Territory tomorrow, we spent today getting caught up on laundry and grocery shopping. However, for a first time visitor to the area, there are some very worthwhile tourist places to visit. Here are just a few of them:
The Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre covers the Ice Age in Yukon. Displays include a cast of the largest woolly mammoth skeleton ever recovered.
In close proximity to the Beringia Centre is the world’s largest weathervane in front of the Transportation Museum, a Douglas DC-3.
The Transportation Museum exhibits a large variety of transportation in the north country.
The old stern wheeler, SS Klondike is located down by the Yukon River. There are many artifacts included on board and it is a very interesting tour.
The city of Whitehorse, Yukon Territory is definitely worth more than just a one night stay!
