We left Puyallup on Sunday 9/16 and were on our way to the Olympic Peninsula. Our drive today would take us to the Escapees Evergreen Coho Campground in Chimacum. Our GPS wanted to take us over the Tacoma narrows bridge, but we chose to enter the peninsula from Olympia so we could say we had “been there, done that”.
Here’s a view of the upper portion of Washington state’s capitol building in Olympia.
Driving westbound from Olympia, this small portion of water in the photo is the south end of Puget Sound.
As we headed north on Hwy 101 toward Chimacum, we followed the Hood Canal for several miles of beautiful scenery. Unfortunately the photo opportunities weren’t all that great.
We arrived at the Escapees campground in Chimacum where we decided to stay for the next 6-7 days as a tour base.
